Ruined book

· 2 min read

After I finished The Way of Kings (2010) in April, I immediately got a copy of the next book in the series, Words of Radiance (2014). I was eager to go back to Roshar and find out what happens to Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, and all the rest. But then, disaster struck.

My ruined copy of Words of Radiance.

One Sunday afternoon, I took the book to my backyard to read in the hammock. It's a lovely thing to do when the weather is nice. Our backyard is quite modest, but we have a nice deck and a large maple tree. It's a very inviting place.

I read a little, took a nap, woke up, and went in to eat supper. A perfect Sunday afternoon. After supper, I went to bed without a worry in my mind. The problem was that I'd forgotten the book outside. When it rained that night, my poor book was completely exposed.

The following day, when I found the book, it had sort of "flowered" from all the moisture it had soaked. Unlike anything I'd seen, and absolutely unusable.

Since I wanted to keep reading, I had to buy another one, but this time, I got the e-book for my waterproof Kindle.
